Nobuo Fujino
Principal Dancer
Originally from Osaka, Japan, Nobuo started training at the Egawa Ballet School. At 17, he won the Idemitsu Scholarship at the Asia-Pacific Ballet Competition to study at The Australian Ballet School. Nobuo joined the Hong Kong Ballet in 1997 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2002. In 2003, Nobuo was awarded the Rising Artist Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. In 2005, he was awarded the Hong Kong Dance Award 2005 from Hong Kong Dance Alliance for his outstanding performance.
Apart from dancing, Nobuo also experiments with choreography. His work, Virtual Utopia for the Choreographic Workshop 2002, won the Best Choreography by a Dancer, in the Dancers' Awards held by the Friends of Hong Kong Ballet. Eternal Blink, his second piece, was presented in Celebrate January with classics and beyond in January 2005.
In 2004, Nobuo performed as guest in Shanghai International Ballet Competition and the International Ballet Festival of Miami. In 2005, Nobuo was nominated for the Benois de la Danse Prize and performed at the Gala performance at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. In September 2006, he was invited to perform in the Gala des Étoiles du XXIe Siècle (Stars of the 21st Century) at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.
In August 2005, Nobuo joined The Australian Ballet as Senior Artist and rejoined the Hong Kong Ballet in January 2008.
