"Bulu Bulu Saves the World 2010" held on 17 July (Sat) marked the most successful "Creative Ballet Training Project" ever, which attracted over 780 audiences gathered in the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre to share the joyous moment with the 250 students on stage. Special guests included the Senior Manager of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Curriculum Development Officer of Education Bureau.
A week after the Finale Performance, a Sharing Meeting took place at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall, where all students and teachers were invited to share their valuable experiences with us. Some teachers said that students not only could learn ballet, drama and visual arts through the scheme, but also increased their confidence, patience and team spirit. They praised highly of the Company's production team and the instructors' experience and caring. Some students expressed their wish to perform longer on stage.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the 12 public school principals and teachers; guest performers Irene Lo, Joe Wong and Wah Wah; our conceptual designer Allen Lam; costume designer and coordinator Alice Tung; all the media teachers; as well as the technical team and wardrobe department of the Hong Kong Ballet and all the volunteer helpers in the backstage.

Hong Kong Ballet Youth Intensive Programme "Ballet with the Stars 2010"
2-5 April 2009, Hong Kong Cultural Centre
One of our most popular education programmes, "Ballet with the Stars 2010" was held during the Easter Holidays in the Hong Kong Ballet rehearsal studios. In this 4-day workshop, students received training on character dance, ballet mime, contemporary ballet, yoga stretch and pilates, theatrical hairstyle, pointe work and pas de duex. Students also leant variations from our Company's repertoire, including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and Paquita. Parents were invited to attend the student in-house demonstration on the last day where we all shared a wonderful time with the Artistic Directors, dancers, parents, students and the Education team.
This year, we were glad to have a record-breaking total of 12 Company dancers, to teach in the workshop including Principal Dancers Jin Yao, Kyoko Tomimura and Nobuo Fujino, Dancers Wu Fei Fei, Aurora Kwong, Catherine Lau, Eve Chan, Li Jie, Li Yi Ran, Hikota Taira, Jonathan Mangosing, as well as guest Instructor, Irene Lo. Two-thirds of the Company male dancers helped as coaches in the Pas de deux class as well.
After the 4-day intensive training, the students' technique improved distinctly and their confidence boosted. They were also thrilled to learn new steps and partnering skills from our professional dancers.
Students from Junior Class Group 1 liked the Ballet Mime and Character Dance classes most since they seldom learn these in ballet schools. Participants from Junior Class Group 2 were very interested in the Character Dance and Repertory class. They also found it amusing to do Contemporary Ballet. Both Junior 1 & 2 students felt that Yoga was very relaxing.
Leung King Man, Naomi from Advanced Class said, "I am so glad to join this workshop. The Pas de duex class gave me so much fun as I could pair up with different partners. I hope that there would be more Pas de duex classes next time. All dancers taught very well! I felt that I became a stronger dancer."

The Evolution of Ballet Open Dress Rehearsal
The Art Ambassadors-in-School Scheme (AAiSS) is organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), and supported by the Hong Kong Ballet. On the evening of 25 March 2010, we have invited the Arts Ambassadors from all different schools to bring along a relative or friend to watch the open dress rehearsal of our Company's production, The Evolution of Ballet, which was held in the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium. Nearly 200 people attended, learning about the history of Ballet through the King's and Queen's narration and watching the masterly performance by our dancers.
Creative Ballet Training Project: "Bulu Bulu Saves the World" – "Magic Theatre"
On 10 January 2010, a Stage Technical Demonstration was held for the participating students of the Creative Ballet Training Project this year as an opportunity for them to know more about the sound and lighting effects and technical terms used on stage. We were glad to have 350 parents and students attended in the event this year. Apart from the technical demonstration and introduction of stage etiquette, students were very attentive playing the games on stage and excited about watching our dancers' performance including pas de deux from the Nutcracker, the Sleeping Beauty and excerpts from a modern ballet, The Way Alone.
We will offer two complimentary tickets for our production in early February of Firecracker to whom have given the most valuable and constructive feedback in the questionnaire. Congratulations to student Ng Wing Yu. We will contact you about the tickets arrangement.

Nutcracker Pre-performance Workshop
The Nutcracker Pre-performance Workshop had gained its popularity and the children spent a joyous time with us on Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 December 2009.
During the Workshop, the children did their own Nutcracker, King Rat or Christmas tree coloring and learnt several movements from each of the characters of Clara, the King Rat, the soldiers and the Snowflakes through photo images. Last but not least, they were all so excited to see the beautiful costumes from Nutcracker.

Lecture Demonstration at Chinese University of Hong Kong
Earlier this year, we had presented a public talk on Swan Lake: "Swan Lake at a Glance" in the foyer of Sir Run Run Shaw Hall at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. On 13 November, we were pleased to be back, and this time, invited by New Asia College to present a lecture demonstration on stage at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall.
The Director of our Department, Shirley Loong, led a team of five dancers together with our Ballet Master, Liang Jing, to share our ballet knowledge with the 1300 students. The one-hour lecture was filled with information on our Company, the history of ballet and stage etiquette. Students also learnt about tutus and the pointe shoes. The highlights of the lecture were the demonstration of ballet class, an excerpt from Sleeping Beauty performed by Li Ming and Yo Takahira and a solo from The Way Alone by Yo Takahira. Much applause was received from the audience. Students showed much interest as well in the last session of Q & A with dancers.
