From its beginnings in Italy and France to the evolution of technique, costumes and the invention of the pointe shoes, witness the emergence of the Romantic ballet and the Russian Classical ballet in the 19th century and experience how modern creativity is redefined. Featuring exciting excerpts from romantic and classical ballets like Giselle, Napoli, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and the work of iconic 20th century figures such as Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, George Balanchine and William Forsythe, this is a revealing show about all you need to know about ballet, and a capsule of the history of this enduring dance form. Madeleine Onne, Artistic Director of The Hong Kong Ballet and Shirley Loong, Director of Education and Outreach will give an overview of ballet’s evolution over time, and the important figures central to its development.
