A Press Conference of the star-studded gala Momentum was held by the Hong Kong Ballet at the Bank of China Tower on 6 November 2007 (Tuesday). Board Chairman Mr. John J. Ying, Honorary Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Stacey Morse and Artistic Director Mr. John Meehan announced Bank of China (Hong Kong) ("BOCHK") as the Title Sponsor of Momentum. Mr. Marco Wong, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Banking & Financial Institutions, BOCHK; Stanton Welch, Artistic Director of Houston Ballet and Choreographer of Clear; Sofiane Sylve, Principal Dancer of New York City Ballet and her dancing partner Tamas Solymosi were present to share their collaboration experience with Hong Kong Ballet.
The event was kicked off by Board Chairman, Mr. John J. Ying who expressed his gratitude to Bank of China (Hong Kong) for their support to the Company. "I would like to thank our Title Sponsor, the Bank of China (Hong Kong), for their generous support of Momentum. I am especially delighted that such a leading financial institution is dedicated to the support of local development in the arts and culture which enables us to remain relevant in the 21st century." said Mr. Ying.
A cheque was presented by BOCHK to Hong Kong Ballet at the press conference. Mr. Marco Wong of BOCHK said, "This is the first time we collaborate with the Hong Kong Ballet. We take great pleasure to support this all-star gala with a wide repertoire of ballet dances. Bank of China (Hong Kong) is committed to supporting the arts and cultural development in Hong Kong. We are delighted to bring you such a spectacular production and wish every success in Momentum."
Highlight of the occasion was the meeting with renowned choreographer Stanton Welch and the two guest artists Sofiane Sylve and Tamas Solymosi,who will be performing Grand pas de deux from Le Corsaire in all five performances. "This is my first time dancing in Hong Kong and working with the Hong Kong Ballet, which is a highly talented and energetic company. I look forward to dancing with them on the same stage." said Sofiane.
