[Hong Kong – 31 March 2017] Hong Kong Ballet Artistic Director Madeleine Onne announces that the Company's Principal Dancer Yao Jin and Coryphée Jonathan Spigner will assume additional roles as Assistant Ballet Mistress and Pilates Instructor, respectively, for the Company with immediate effect. Both Jin and Spigner will continue to perform as dancers.

Born in Jilin, China, Yao Jin joined the Company as a Senior Soloist in 2004 and was named Principal Dancer in 2005. With the Company, she has danced principal roles in Stephen Jefferies’ and John Meehan’s Swan Lake and Giselle, Cynthia Harvey’s The Sleeping Beauty, George Balanchine’s Serenade and many others. Last November, she celebrated her 20th anniversary as a professional ballet dancer with Val Caniparoli’s Lady of the Camellias, which was an homage to her fascinating career as well as a showcase of her artistic excellence. In her additional role as Assistant Ballet Mistress, she will join forces with Senior Ballet Master Jing Liang and Ballet Mistress Min Tang to continue developing the Company’s artistry to the highest level.

Born in South Carolina, USA, Jonathan Spigner joined the Company as a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2010 and was named Coryphée in 2014. With the Company, he has danced featured roles in Terence Kohler’s The Nutcracker, Cynthia Harvey’s The Sleeping Beauty, Nina Ananiashvili’s Don Quixote and Nacho Duato’s Castrati, among others. He has also premièred choreographic works at Choreographers’ Showcase, including Passion Flower in 2016, Days Gone By in 2015 and Wepart in 2014. In his additional role as Pilates Instructor, he will assist Sports Practitioner Arlene Mackinlay in improving the physical wellness of the dancers by strengthening core muscles through pilates exercises.
