The Nutcracker:
Cast announced for The Hong Kong Ballet’s
Annual Festive Production


[Hong Kong – 8th December 2014] The Hong Kong Ballet announces today the cast list for the Company’s annual festive production – The Nutcracker. 13 dazzling performances will be held at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 19th to 21st and 24th to 28th December 2014. The Hong Kong Ballet is also delighted to welcome Antonino Sutera, Principal Dancer at Teatro alla Scala to join our performances on 20th December 2014 (Sat) at 7:30pm and 21st December 2014 (Sun) at 2:30pm.

Join the adventures of Clara, Fritz and the Nutcracker as they battle the evil Rat King and climb atop the magical Christmas tree to meet the Ballerina Doll! With gorgeous sets and costumes, The Nutcracker is a spectacular ballet which showcases the brilliant classical ballet technique of The Hong Kong Ballet dancers together with local children from the Hong Kong community. Featuring Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score performed live by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, this ballet is sure to enchant the entire family.

About Antonin Sutera
Antonino Sutera graduated from La Scala Theatre Ballet School, one of the leading classical ballet schools in the world, in 1999. That same year he became a member of the Corps de Ballet at Teatro alla Scala, participating in classic and contemporary productions. He participated in the “Stockholm International Gala” and in the “Gala Nureyev”. In 2004 he was promoted to First Soloist and received Awards from the Italian dance magazine “Danza&Danza” and the “Positano Prize”. Sutera has débuted in major theaters around the world including, Bolshoi Theatre, Royal Opera House, Mariinsky Theater, and Lincoln Center. In 2010, he was appointed Principal Dancer at Teatro alla Scala.

About The Nutcracker
Tiptoe through the silent house with Clara and Fritz…everyone else is asleep but little do they know that the children are about to set off on a magical adventure! As the snow falls outside, Clara and Fritz step into the dream world of the dolls’ house. Suddenly Clara and Fritz find themselves in the middle of a great battle; can the heroic Nutcracker conquer the dastardly Rat King and his army? Will the children save the day and reunite the Ballerina and her beloved Nutcracker?

The Nutcracker, Ballerina, Rat King and more - take this opportunity to look inside choreographer Terence Kohler's exciting and unique version of The Nutcracker. With beautiful music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, find out more about this wonderful production and its historical journey from St Petersburg, Russia to Hong Kong. This informative and lighthearted conversation is suitable for children and adults alike and is the perfect way to begin your magical experience at the theatre.

The programme is about 20 minutes long. Free admission with The Nutcracker tickets. Conducted in English with Cantonese translation.

Don’t miss this super, interactive workshop, tailor-made for children aged 4-8. Imagery, crafts and of course movement will be used to explore the classical story The Nutcracker. Students will be encouraged to express their theatrical side through character interpretation. They will also learn some of bravura steps from this classical ballet, to be a little Nutcracker, Ballerina or Rat King! No previous dance experience is necessary.
