Postponement of Balanchine's Jewels, proudly presented by Van Cleef & Arpels

Due to the extended quarantine rule, The George Balanchine Trust has difficulties in sending a repetiteur to Hong Kong to coach the Company in Balanchine’s great masterwork. To ensure we maintain the highest artistic standards, our performances of Van Cleef & Arpels Proudly Presents Balanchine's Jewels, previously scheduled for 30 October - 1 November 2020, will be postponed to 21-23 May 2021. The venue will be changed from Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre to The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’ Lyric Theatre. Patrons may exchange their existing tickets for the new dates, donate their tickets, or apply for a refund. Please click here to complete the form and return it to us by 6pm, 27 July 2020 (Mon). If you have any enquiries, please contact us at marketing@hkballet.com or at +852 2105 9724 (Office Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-6pm). We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Brilliant facets of gem stones distilled into a grand display

George Balanchine's glittering masterwork Jewels was inspired by a chance visit to iconic jewelers Van Cleef & Arpels on Fifth Avenue in New York, and since its premiere in 1967, it has become one of the most renowned works of the twentieth century. This dazzling three-act ballet celebrates the beauty and glamour of precious gemstones: in Emeralds, Balanchine evokes the French romantic style; in Rubies, he celebrates American exuberance and energy; and in Diamonds, he presents the magnificent grandeur of Imperial Russia. With music by Fauré, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky performed live and sparkling costumes, the modern classic Jewels is the epitome of glamour!
