A preview of our upcoming production, Don Quixote was held on 12th August 2014 in the rehearsal room of the Grand Theatre, backstage at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Artistic Director Madeleine Onne and Director of Artistic Planning & Touring Joseph Morrissey introduced the historical background of this epic tale, and they were joined for the session by legendary figures from the ballet world Nina Ananiashvili (who is staging the show and contributing additional choreography) and Aleksei Fadeechev (Artistic Consultant for the show). The team told the audience all about the new production, and shared a few insights about staging Don Quixote for The Hong Kong Ballet; Nina and Aleksei also talked about their experiences as dancers at the Bolshoi.

The new production will have stunning new sets and costumes; and Set and Costume Designer Thomas Mika showed the audience some examples of costumes, and talked about his creation process.

The highlight of the lecture was a dance demonstration, where Nina led Company dancers in a rehearsal of an excerpt from Don Quixote. The audience really enjoyed the preview, as demonstrated by their enthusiastic applause.
