Children’s Audition for Don Quixote 2020

Hong Kong Ballet will stage a full-length production of Don Quixote on 30 October – 1 November 2020 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre.

Choreographed by internationally renowned ballerina, Nina Ananiashvili, after Marius Petipa, Alexander Gorsky and Vakhtang Chabukiani. Originally staged in four acts and eight scenes, Don Quixote is a ballet based on the famous novel Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes.

We are inviting young talent to audition for roles as Little Cupids and Market Kids in Don Quixote. Successful applicants will have this special opportunity to share the stage with our Company dancers!

The 2 auditions for the production will be held on 27 September 2020 via Zoom and 4 October 2020 face-to-face. Details are as follows:

First Audition: Zoom

Registration time 9 years old – 9:15 AM
10 years old – 10:30 AM
11 years old – 11:45 AM
12 and above – 1:00 PM
Audition time 9 years old – 9:30AM-10:15AM
10 years old – 10:45AM-11:30AM
11 years old – 12:00 NOON-12:45PM
12 and above – 1:15 PM-2:00 PM
Second Audition: Face-to-face
Date 4 October 2020 (Sunday)
Time 9:30AM – 2:00PM

Children’s roles in Don Quixote

Market Kids:

  • Current ballet students (boys or girls) between 9-14 years old (on 30 October 2020)
  • Measure between 130cm and 145cm in height
  • Demonstrate natural acting (miming) talent and musicality
  • Have a natural sense of free movement
  • Be able to learn quickly
  • Dance experience is an advantage
  • Can confidently perform on stage
  • Must be able to attend ALL rehearsals and performances

Little Cupids:

  • Current female ballet students between 9-14 years old (on 30 October 2020)
  • Measure between 130cm and 145cm in height
  • Exhibit exceptional classical ballet training (some steps require technical proficiency)
  • Be able to show a love of ballet through movement
  • Good feet and physique is an advantage
  • Be able to learn quickly
  • Can confidently perform on stage
  • Must be able to attend ALL rehearsals and performances

Application guidelines

  • Deadline for application submission: 5:00pm on Monday, 23 September 2020
  • We ONLY accept online applications on HERE. Other forms of submission will not be considered. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Each candidate should only submit their application once.
  • Qualified registrants will be notified on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • You will receive an auto-reply upon submission of your application.
  • Late submissions or incomplete registration forms will not be processed under any circumstances. You will risk losing your audition opportunity if you repeatedly submit applications for the same candidate.
  • Hong Kong Ballet's decision on all matters relating to the audition is final.

Announcement of audition results

Successful applicants selected for a second face-to-face audition session will receive individual e-mail notification by 5:00pm, 29 September 2020 (Tuesday).
