An Excellent Introduction to a Live Ballet Performance for Children


[Hong Kong—15 January 2020] Experience the power of true love that can last a hundred years! After an evil fairy casts a spell on the beautiful Princess Aurora, only a kiss from her prince can awaken her from her slumber. Created by renowned local choreographer Yuri Ng and narrated by Rick Lau, Ballet Classics for Children: The Sleeping Beauty is a one-hour abridged version of the timeless classic fairytale that will enchant children with its innovative blend of storytelling, dance and audience interaction. This entertaining, popular show usually sells out quickly and is an excellent introduction for audiences of all ages, including children as young as 3 years old.

Besides the wonderful performances onstage, guests can enjoy a series of exciting activities before and after the shows in Tutu Factory. Kick off your shoes at Kids’ Ballet Workshop, get to know classical ballet music in Ballet Greatest Hits, create your unique tutu in Make Your Own Tutu, and meet the Company’s ballerinas and dancers in the Tiaras, Pointe Shoes & Me for an interactive discussion.

Co-presented by Freespace in the West Kowloon Cultural District as part of the Hong Kong Ballet in Residence 2020 programme, six performances of this production will be staged at The Box, Freespace, West Kowloon Cultural District during 8 - 9 February 2020. Tickets are priced at $300 and $200 and are now available at westkowloon.hk, Freespace and Xiqu Centre Ticket Office, designated Tom Lee Music outlets (Olympian City, Shatin and Yuen Long) and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Hong Kong Ballet in Residence 2020
The first year of Hong Kong Ballet’s residency at Freespace features creative four-day ballet experiences with live performances for audiences of all ages. Workshops, insightful talks and interactive sessions will take place alongside collaborative short works between Hong Kong-based choreographers and fashion designers to innovatively activate Freespace.

About Freespace

Freespace is Hong Kong’s new centre for contemporary performance in the heart of the Art Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District, presenting multi-genre performances and events. It produces boundary-pushing collaborations and promotes new ways of seeing and experiencing performance. Freespace houses The Box, one of the largest black box theatres in Hong Kong, a flexible space for cutting-edge performances. Two multi-purpose spaces - The Room and The Studio - are designed to be used for creative exchange and artistic collaborations.
