Hong Kong Ballet’s Mainland China Tour 2017

Received with Tremendous Enthusiasm

[Hong Kong – 11 July 2017] Celebrating the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)’s 20th anniversary, Hong Kong Ballet’s four-city China tour to Beijing, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Jinan last month was met with enthusiastic applause and critical acclaim. As a key flagship arts organisation in Hong Kong, the Company proudly served as a cultural ambassador to mainland audiences and performed for fans in Hangzhou and Jinan for the very first time. The tour was generously sponsored by the Government of the HKSAR and Official Tour Sponsor China Everbright Ltd. with PUMA as the Tour Uniform Partner.

From 16 to 28 June, the Company gave a total of seven performances that included John Meehan’s Swan Lake as well as an inspiring mixed bill programme consisting of two Jiří Kylián works, Petite Mort and Sechs Tänze, Fei Bo’s Shenren Chang and Jorma Elo’s Shape of Glow, reaching a total of over 6,000 audience members. The strong ensemble performed on the stages of Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, Hangzhou Grand Theatre, Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre and Shandong Grand Theatre, and was praised by critics on its versatility, artistry and technical excellence.

Also celebrating its 20th anniversary of inception, Official Tour Sponsor China Everbright Ltd. hosted a Gala Night Cocktail Reception at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center on 17 June, which was attended by Mr Kevin So, Management Decision Committee Member and Director of CEO Office of China Everbright Ltd. and other special guests who had the opportunity to be photographed with Hong Kong Ballet’s exceptional dancers: Ye Feifei, Li Jiabo, Shen Jie, Wei Wei, Dong Ruixue, Lucas Jerkander, Yang Ruiqi, Wang Qingxin and Lin Chang-yuan Kyle.
