Special Charity Night of
ALICE (in wonderland)

Raises Funds for Hong Kong Ballet’s Education/Outreach Programmes

[Hong Kong – 20 August 2018] On 18 August, Hong Kong Ballet hosted “Hong Kong Ballet Charity Night: ALICE (in wonderland)” at the ALICE (in wonderland) performance at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre at 7:30pm. This special fundraising event specifically raised money for Hong Kong Ballet’s award-winning education and community outreach programmes, which allow members of underserved communities and those with special needs to watch Hong Kong Ballet performances free of charge. It also provided an opportunity to actively engage with the next generation of ballet audiences through the involved Charity Night Committee members.

Organising Committee Chair Gillian Ho, Committee members Cheryl Chan, Sharon Cheng and Samantha Kuo proudly hosted the Charity Night and placed special emphasis on outreach to young people in their 20s and 30s. They were joined by over 40 special guests including Amanda Tung, Caitlin Cheng and many more.

Gillian Ho enthused, “I’m thrilled and honoured to organise such a meaningful event with the other Committee members. All of us enjoyed a fun night and successfully raised funds for Hong Kong Ballet to deliver transformative experiences for the city’s underprivileged communities through ballet performances and education/outreach activities.”

Additionally, a pre-party for over 50 guests was held in the evening of 15 August at The Music Room at Potato Head Hong Kong. Cheryl Chan explained, “The ticket surplus from our guests will contribute to the Company’s Accessibility Fund, which goes directly towards the purchase of tickets for underserved groups and individuals. It’s important for young people to get more involved in both the arts and serving the community, and I’m glad I can do my part.”

Sharon Cheng reasoned, “It will create opportunities for underserved communities by providing free tickets to those who might not otherwise have the chance to experience a ballet performance. I hope that more people will be aware of these worthwhile events in the future.”

Samantha Kuo added, “We hope to encourage more people to donate to Hong Kong Ballet so that they can continue to educate the next generation of audiences and support the development of the arts in Hong Kong. Everyone should be given the opportunity to experience ballet.”

Each of the five performances of ALICE at Hong Kong Cultural Centre last week was a full house. The remaining five shows at Yuen Long Theatre have also been sold out.
