Artistic Director’s Message

Watch out … this season Hong Kong Ballet is taking over the city like never before! Our artists are larger than life both on stage and in our community, leaving an impactful footprint in all corners of our vibrant city. From interactive activities to a bold series of mainstage productions of new classics and ground-breaking contemporary works, this season there’s a lot to look forward to.

I am especially excited about the world premiere of Yuri Possokhov’s breathtaking Swan Lake, the return of the beloved Roaring Twenties drama The Great Gatsby and a glamorous International Gala of Stars 2023 with renowned guest superstars joining us from around the world. Families thoroughly enjoyed the lively Ballet Carnival for Kids and our new show Sam and her Amazing Book of Dinosaurs , which fuses with the latest cutting-edge arts technology, and will love our festive favourite The Nutcracker, celebrating early 20th century Hong Kong with Clara and friends. We continue our adventures in the contemporary world with an evening of fabulous works in The Rule Breakers, featuring ballet’s most notorious choreographers. Finally, please keep an eye out for a host of entertaining fringe activities around town. There’s going to be something for everyone!

This year we want to stand out in all the ways that matter. We will create spaces for women and girls to be heard with our new ‘Ballet x Girl Power’, using ballet training to develop Hong Kong’s future female leaders, and we will continue our innovative programmes in local schools. Reaching the community outside of the theatre, training the next generation of dancers and deeply investing in Hong Kong’s people will help create a better world for us all.
