An exhibition displaying all 30 excellent designs took place at Yuen Long Theatre from 6 – 21 August. The prize presentation was also successfully held on 20 August at Yuen Long Theatre and we were honored to have our Artistic Director Madeleine Onne, one of the judges in the final round, present prizes and certificates to the 12 talented winners in our Mask Design Competition. Everyone was excited with their prizes from Repetto, our Prize Partner. Thank you again for everyone’s valuable efforts and participation!

 Final Round Judging

In the Final Judging Round, which took place at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, three authoritative judicators - Madeleine Onne, the Company’s Artistic Director, Vanessa Lai, HKB dancer and Bridget Steis, Guest Costume Designer – enthusiastically spent many hours selecting the best design in each category. Surrounded by brilliant designs from the shortlisted entrants, the judges enjoyed examining each unique artwork and trying on the winners’ masks.

Additionally, Facebook public voting on HKB’s page ended on 8 August. The public voted for their preferred mask among the shortlisted entries, and the design that received the most “likes” became the Facebook contest winner. Results were announced together with the selected winners on 10 August.

 First Round Judging

In June 2016, Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) proudly launched the Mask Design Competition – a unique combination of art, innovation and ballet. After receiving and reviewing over 450 excellent designs, two judges, Joanne Chong – our Director of Wardrobe and Vency Kwok – our Education and Community Outreach Manager, carefully selected 30 designs from each category – Category A (Ages 3 - 6, Parent-child), Category B (Ages 7 - 15) and Category C (Age 16 or above) in the first round of judging.
