On 16 May 2017, the Preview of Carmen and More saw over nearly 100 enthusiastic audience members at the intimate Studio Theatre inside Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

During the engaging presentation, the audience heard more about the background of all the pieces featured in the mixed bill, such as Shape of Glow and its choreographer Jorma Elo. Two ballets choreographed by Jiří Kylián - Petite Mort and Sechs Tänze -  were introduced to audience as Artistic Director Madeleine Onne talked with Assistant to the Choreographer Shirley Esseboom about the creative insights of Kylián as well as her own experiences working with Hong Kong Ballet on these two pieces. Additionally, the Company’s own choreographers, Yuh Egami and Ricky Song-wei Hu, discussed their perspectives on choreography and concepts when creating their new work Carmen. Mike Orange, member of renowned local indie band Chochukmo, also spoke about the collaborative creative process with Hong Kong Ballet on the music of Carmen.

Additionally, the audience had the treat of seeing signature dance excerpts performed by Company dancers: Xue-ning Zhang, Yui Sugawara and Shunsuke Arimizu in Shape of Glow; Xue-ning Zhang and Jun Xia in Petite Mort; Naomi Yuzawa, Xue-ning Zhang, Yui Sugawara, Shen Jie, Jun Xia, Leung Chun Long and Shunsuke Arimizu in Carmen. These special performances gave the guests a small taste of what the thrilling season finale Carmen and More had in store for them!
