On 24 October 2017, over 100 enthusiastic participants attended The Preview of Le Corsaire at the Rehearsal Studio inside Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Artistic Director Septime Webre introduced to the audience about Le Corsaire’s background, relationships and story and had a chance to see up close the intricate costumes and costume sketches designed by Hugo Millan. A highlight of the Preview was personal interviews with our guest coach Julio Bocca and choreographer Anna-Marie Holmes, which allowed participants to gain a greater understanding about the choreography’s structure and building blocks. Afterwards, the Company dancers performed thrilling excerpts from the production to the delight of the guests. Excerpts included the Odalisque pas de trois by Chen Zhiyao, Gao Ge, Wang Qingxin and the first Conrad variation by Li Jiabo. The performances were done with live coaching provided by Mr. Bocca.

The concept of pas de deux was introduced and demonstrated with pas de deux excerpts from Le Corsaire, which included Gulnare and Pasha’s assistant by Chen Zhiyao and Luis Cabrera and Gulnare and Lankendem by Wang Qingxin and Garry Corpuz. Additionally, Gao Ge (Medora), Li Jiabo (Ali) and Wei Wei (Conrad) performed the Pas de Trois from Act 2.

The Le Corsaire Preview concluded with an interactive Q & A session, and all the participants very much enjoyed getting an early glimpse of this exciting ballet production!
