Hong Kong Ballet's Romeo and Juliet premièred on 23 March 2007 and has drawn to a close after four successful performances playing to 95% capacity. A balletic masterpiece choreographed by Rudi van Dantzig, Romeo and Juliet was staged at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium.
The opening gala cocktail reception was hosted by new Board Chairman John J. Ying during the intermission. "Tonight, we are here to witness the opening night of one of the highlights of the ballet repertoire. Romeo and Juliet reflects Rudi van Dantzig's signature style: classical elegance infused with modern energy. We look forward to the addition of this powerful and expressive ballet to our repertoire." He also congratulated John Meehan, Artistic Director, who brought this spectacular production to the local audience.
Rudi van Dantzig, a founding member of Netherlands Dance Theatre and former Artistic Director of Dutch National Ballet, was highly impressed by the vitality of the Company. He said that it was incredible to work with the Hong Kong Ballet, who are talented, and have much love and committment to dance.
