The Nutcracker Crowdfunding Campaign Brings the City Together to Co-produce
a New Hong Kong Holiday Classic

[Hong Kong—10 November 2021] Did you ever imagine that you could be part of a ballet classic belonging to Hong Kong? Created over the span of three years by Hong Kong Ballet (HKB)’s Artistic Director Septime Webre, a spectacular new Hong Kong Christmas adventure will greet audiences this December. Set in early 20th century Hong Kong, The Nutcracker incorporates distinctive local culture, food, nature and history to give audiences a very unique experience. HKB looks forward to your participation not only in the audience but also as a producer to make this Christmas even more meaningful.

The Only and Only The Nutcracker Unique to Hong Kong
Since 1981, HKB’s The Nutcracker has been a cherished Christmas tradition for Hong Kong, with over 300,000 audience members throughout the years. Grateful for the 40 years of loyal support, HKB will lovingly create a The Nutcracker production belonging to the people of Hong Kong. With over 300 thrilling performers, 240 sparkling hand-made costumes and five intriguing, vibrant scenes in the show, audiences will discover Hong Kong elements everywhere in this new Christmas classic.

Your Generous Support is Needed to Make a Classic Come to Life
For every dollar spent on a ticket, triple that amount is spent producing the show. The crowdfunding campaign is a new approach to engage potential and bigger audiences as well as to advocate arts education. Through different crowdfunding plans, every producer not only has the opportunity to witness a production’s creation but can also learn more about our beloved city during the process. With this family-friendly production, we aim to educate the next generation and cultivate arts and culture appreciation from an early age. As Hong Kongers, we look forward to your participation in this historic event: becoming our producer, co-producing the show and proudly creating a collective Hong Kong memory together!

Starting from HK$500, you can be a producer of The Nutcracker. Every HK$500 donation will support a special element on stage, which will become part of a significant legacy in future years. In return, you will get exclusive gifts and benefits like a signed The Nutcracker photo print, 12-month acknowledgment on HKB’s website, a free Friends of Hong Kong Ballet membership and even tickets to sneak peek or dress rehearsal.
